By now, I’m hoping that you’ve been able to see Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse in theatres. Not only is it one of the best films of the year, it’s my personal pick to win Best Animated Feature for the Oscars next year. Is it too soon to talk about that? The 97% on Rotten Tomatoes doesn’t seem to disagree. Nor does the box office - it has the largest December animated opening yet, with $35.4 million, besting the previous record holder Sing (Universal and Illumination). It just goes to show you that anyone can be Spider-Man under the mask, and that Miles Morales is more that worthy to wear it.
If you stay until the end credits, you’ll see an unfamiliar (or familiar, depending on your love of Spider-Man) face at the end. Who is this masked hero?
I’m glad you asked!
I did a write-up for The Hollywood Reporter talking about that mysterious guy, Miguel O’Hara aka Spider-Man 2099. Check it out here!
